Hydro Safe® ISO VG-32

Non-Toxic - Biodegradable - Environmentally Friendly - Antiwear - Hydraulic Oil

Hydro Safe® ISO VG-32 is a vegetable based hydraulic fluid formulated to meet the demand for biodegradable hydraulic oils. It is designed to minimize environmental impact and have low environmental persistence. Hydro Safe® ISO VG-32 offers excellent antiwear performance in a wide array of hydraulic components, and can be used as a superior replacement for conventional petroleum oil. It exhibits good thermal and oxidative properties when compared to other vegetable-derived products. Hydro Safe® is formulated from canola (rapeseed) oil, and contains biodegradable, non-toxic chemical additives. Its high viscosity index (VI) allows outdoor operations in winter and summer without the need for fluid changes or equipment modifications.

Viscosity Index ASTM D-567, ASA Z11.45 is an empirical number indicating the rate of change in viscosity of an oil within a given temperature range. A low viscosity index signifies a relatively large change in viscosity with temperature change, while a high viscosity index shows a relatively small change in viscosity with temperature change. Viscosity Index cannot be used to measure any other quality of an oil. Hydro Safe ® is formulated to provide a long life cycle as documented by the long Bomb Life, as indicated below, before oxidation occurs.

The fluid is totally biodegradable, and exceeds the government criteria of being "readily biodegradable." Readily biodegradable is defined as an attribute of products that have a natural ability to biodegrade quickly and completely. Once the fluid is leaked into the ground, it has the ability of substance to be digested or consumed by naturally occurring microorganisms present in water, air, and soil systems. Complete biodegradability is the conversion of a substance to carbon dioxide and water.

The oil has been thoroughly tested, and meets or exceeds the industry standard Vickers V-104-C extended vane test, as well as other mechanical, engineering, lubrication and wear tests, to ensure compatibility and extended wear properties. ASTM D2691 Hydrolytic Stability Test - This test measures the fluid's ability to resist breakdown in the presence of heat and water. The amount of base needed to neutralize water layer in the test at its conclusion was 7.0 mg. This is an exceptionally low value and indicates that the product is very stable even under the most adverse conditions and will not be aggressive toward metal and components in the hydraulic system.


No health or safety hazards exist when Hydro Safe® ISO VG-32 is stored, used and disposed of in accordance with instructions given on the Material Safety Data Sheet for this product. Over ninety percent (90%) of this product will biodegrade in 120 days after being exposed to the ground environment (bacteria) or biological treatment. The rest biodegrades over a longer period of time.
